ADHD

Self-Assessment

It is not uncommon for people with ADHD to find themselves struggling with addictive behaviours. It can often seem that substance use can be the only thing that brings relief, slows down the thoughts, and takes away the stress. ADHD is not a curse or a life sentence. It is about learning to live with it in a way that doesn't keep you stuck in addictive cycles. This self-assessment can give you some insight into your mindset, and it will mean recovery has to have a unique approach to your situation.

Impulse Control

Self-Assessment

Impulse control issues manifest as an inability to resist the urge to perform a particular act; addiction is characterised by a compulsive need for a substance or behaviour, despite its harmful effects. If you find yourself frequently acting on impulses or struggling with addictive behaviours, it's essential to understand the underlying causes. Take this self-assessment as a starting place to understand your situation, and we can help you further manage it at Unhooked.

For Individuals

Secrets, substance overuse and compulsive behaviours affect the whole family, and the family also needs support to re-learn how to relate to the person in recovery. Simon's unique approach means that you will be supported in making the needed behavioural, emotional & mindset changes, whilst you are living at home and continuing in your work. It is a proven practice that by giving meaningful support to people whilst they are in the very environments that have been triggering, there is a much higher rate of improvement for that person.

For Couples

When one partner (or both) is engaging in substance overuse, such as too much drinking, taking substances for partying or to cope, it creates unique challenges for couples to overcome. For a couple to heal, it's about the relationship being repaired, not just for one person to manage a compulsive behaviour (although that is also part of the process.) Simon treats the couple, not just the individuals. This gives people the best chance to walk out long-lasting recovery.

SIMON SAYS

RECOVERY IS A PROCESS

Gateway

YOUR PATH BEGINS

The Gateway phase is where your path to being free from addiction begins. We'll take stock of what your current reality is and how you want to engage in your recovery. You'll find the courage to begin to connect with yourself in a supportive environment. With attachment-sensitive coaching, we'll help you understand the underlying causes of your addictive behaviour, through self-awareness, self-compassion, and relational connection.

Groundwork

STRONG FOUNDATION

In the Groundwork phase, we lay the foundation for lasting change. We'll look at your story, uncovering the root causes of your addictive patterns. We'll identify and address any triggers that you may be experiencing. You'll see how the cycle of addiction has been at work in your situation. Through healthy relationships and good self-care, we'll support you in developing resilience, building healthy boundaries and emotional awareness.

Gameplan

BUILD YOUR ROADMAP

Now that we've built a strong foundation, it's time to create your Gameplan for sustainable recovery. We'll work together to identify triggers and develop effective coping strategies tailored to your unique circumstances. Our approach ensures that we take into account your needs, strengths, and values. Together, we'll explore alternative ways of finding fulfilment, redefining success, and setting achievable goals aligned with your renewed vision of life.

Growth

KEEP MOVING AHEAD

The final phase, Growth, marks the culmination of your recovery journey. Here, we'll focus on integrating the changes you've made, nurturing your newfound resilience, and fostering personal growth and relational connection. You'll learn to adapt to life's challenges through ongoing support while maintaining a balanced, purpose-driven existence. Embrace the opportunity to thrive and create a life filled with authentic joy and fulfilment.
SPEAK WITH SIMON

I'm Simon Williams

I hope I have the chance of meeting you soon!

I've been working in the field of addiction recovery for over 20 years, and have real empathy for the struggle that so many of you are going through.

I've studied the whole area of addiction for a long time, and gained qualifications in alcohol and drug counselling, pastoral care, life coaching, with my Master's degree in counselling on the way.

I've been married to Jodie for 29 years and have two adult sons, a wonderful daughter-in-law, and our cuddly Jack Russell Terrier, named Russell (of course!). We enjoy living on the Mornington Peninsula. Good coffee always wins me over ... no instant for me! I love laughing and can be heard miles away when I do!

"My partner was concerned that my drinking had increased to a level that was causing issues in our relationship and in my life. I found Simon to be warm, friendly and very understanding. He is very knowledgeable about substance use and was able to drill down into the core issues in my life - what and why I did what I did. This was quite a liberating feeling and has given me new insights and tools to change my habits."
- JW, VIC
"I have found Simon deeply empathetic, sensitive and easy to work with; he has always treated our son with respect and quickly built trust and rapport with him. For the rest of us, he has always taken a whole of family lens and approach. He has been very generous with his time and coaching and I always leave our conversations feeling calmer and able to cope - reconciled to what I can do and what I am not responsible for."
- KF, VIC
"Simon has been able to educate me on addictions, codependency and family breakdown from addictions. He has supported me in viewing changes when other family members embrace their healing, and he has assisted me in seeing the aftermath of addictions. Simon is supporting me to break the patterns of codependency and to gain strength, self-worth and self-esteem, to rebuild my life in healthy ways."
